How big of skate where you able to get in? When I was a kid, when salmon fishing was slow, sometimes we would fish this one spot that we would always hook into very large skate. They would tow our boat around for a while till we lost them. The gear we used was not strong enough to bring them up. I was always curious how big they tend to be?racfish wrote:I used to catch real large Skate in the Saratoga Passage area between Hat and Whidbey.

I was in my 15 foot Duroboat and got a free tow to the ferry dock.It was big Id guess over 100 lbs. Its such a majestic creature I didnt have the wants to cut his (or her) wings off.Creatures like that deserve life in my books. I released him next to the boat.I thought at first I had a Halibut on.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

over the years I have told people the story about them dragging our boat around, but I think most people thought I was exagerating on how it would drag us around. It's cool to hear from someone who actually got one up. I have always thought about going to that area now a days with halibut gear just to take a look at how big they are.racfish wrote:I was in my 15 foot Duroboat and got a free tow to the ferry dock.It was big Id guess over 100 lbs.
