Quinoa (a superfood)

Post by racfish » Fri Feb 29, 2008 12:26 pm

Pronounced keen-wah..Its a rice subsitute.Only difference is its actually quite healthy. It has high fiber and proteins.I made some with a Traegerized fresh OP Steelie and it was great. If you want to try a way better starch food try Quinoa. Its easy to make.1 cup of the grain with 2 cups of liquid.I use onion soup.It dates back to the days of the Incas.I looked it up online.Thought I'd just pass this on. HAPPY LEAP DAY.

When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

How is it you found out about this product? Where did you get it?

Its a grain that I first found in a recipe book from Weight Watchers.I've found it at Trader Joes,Greenfresh Market in Renton,PFI in downtown near Safeco field and PCC stores have it.If you go on your browser and write in Quinoa it gives you some choices.

It only gave me places online to buy it. I will try the places around my area. It sounds like it would be good for me. I thought I would give it a try. Now when you said you used onion soup, does that mean that you use the soup as the liquid?

Here is what Wikipedia says. I may just have to try some of this stuff.

Yes Toni I buy the powdered soup mix ie Lipton or Knorrs.I make it with hot water then use that liquid as my 2 cups to one cup of the Quinoa.Any broth or basic clear broth would work.I buy it at the Health store.I did not see it at my Safeway.Ive been making it quite a bit.It really goes with just about anything.Enjoy and Eat In Good Health.

I found it at Fred Meyer bulk food (health) for $2.79 a pound. Which I got quite a bit since it is lite weight not at all like rice even though it is cooked as such. We had it tonight for dinner and 1 son liked it, other said it was OK, daughter thought it would be ok if added to a pasta dish as a topping, I thought it was good and has lots of possibilities. I like the idea that it is really healthy and it is something "new" for us.

Thanks racfish.
