My fishing friend and I thought we'd try something we hadn't done in a long time--- go ice fishing! We arrived at Hog Canyon around noon; I had gone hunting in the area in the past, and both of us have "some" experience fishing Fishtrap Lake--- which is just south of here. The weather was in a mild "Chinook"; just freezing, but warmer than the past few days. The ice was about 8" thick, with a thin layer of snow on it. We decided to fish about 1/8 mile from the boat launch, mainly because A) there was a hole already drilled in the ice there, and B) I have MS and THAT limited the distance I could walk. As for the fishing: We both had bites, probably from smaller fish (the rapid tap-tap-tap of our fishing poles told us these fish were not committed enough to grab onto our bait) but did not land any. There were several other anglers on the lake, further out. As far as we were from the boat launch, the depth of the water was only 6' !! Trust me: We will try again!
