Went out on my boat yesterday, started trolling a black woolly bugger close to shore and got nailed by a 12lb steelhead. The only minor inconvience was that I was using 4lb test. Needless to say it took me about an hour (with lots of sympathetic onlookers I might add) to even get the monster close to the boat, then it was another run and more reeling for me. My thanks to Gary White who was kind enough to lend me his landing net (even though the net could only fit the head of the fish). I later repayed him with lots of laughter as I almost fell into the water trying futilely to net the fish. Well, the good news was that the big monster didn't win, and It was a BLAST! Now for the educational part for the day. For you bank fishers, powerbait is producing in the swimming area, and casting small spoons and spinners are taking some fish that are hanging close to the dock. Good Luck and Tight Lines!
