We returned to Baker Lake (after a three year absence), to fish the prolific species known as ' Silver ' trout.

My wife, son and his very pregnant wife (my grandson A.J's first fishin' trip - born NEXT month : -) wanted to catch a few Baker Lake ' silver ' trout. So, I brought along my ' mix ' and
created a few orgies of feeding trout.

Man and his fishing tackle being at the top of the feeding chain, we caught many of these great tasting trout during three days of frenetic fishing activity.
As it happened, we used untra-lite gear and a simple, small egg hook (very little weight placed well away from the hook), with a ' red ' egg (any red egg), a small piece of worm,
grub/maggot or even a small piece of salad shrimp will usually get the job done at Baker Lake. It is important to have a long leader in relation to the bait, these fish
will steal your bait or become ' un-hooked ' if the weight is to close. Your bait has to be ' free-floating ' so they cannot feel the weight when the take the bait.
Freshwater Perch react the same way when they ' bite ' both species being great thieves : - )

Having fished this 9 mile lake for more years then I care to count, there are certain ' areas ' that limits are a given.
Still fishing is the most popular form of catching these trout, I also troll it and have caught many fish while dragging a wedding ring spinner with a portion
of worm on my downriggers, in the 22 to 30 foot range. My trolling was limited this trip, due to the incredible amount of ' wood ' floating around the lake.
I did manage to catch a couple 12 " fish trolling when the debris shifted to another park of the lake.

There were also times when still fishing was impossible as well, because of all the ' debris ' in the water !? The other side of that coin was some additional ' pieces ' of driftwood for
my landscaping at home. Actually, this ' debris ' hunting thing became quite fun while we were not fishing ....

Bottom line, fishing was hot if you could get your bait past the abundance of wood in the water, you would catch your limit, MANY in the 12 inch range !

Normally, we have caught silvers in the 6 to 9 inch range in Baker Lake. This trip was a pleasant surprise because of the enhanced possibility of catching these larger fish.
Regardless, we still drop our bait down to the point where we can no longer see it, about 10 or 12 feet (top of the water column.)

I realize this is NOT fly fishing as I have and do fish often, but it still requires one to be patient and coordinate your efforts with those who's lines are
tangled with yours : - ) After all, what better abundance of fish can one find for the kids ...... and yes, those ' silver ' trout do snatch the bait from the hook to live another day.

This was also the first time we have camped at Baker Lake Resort while fishing this lake. Advancing age and 3 bulging disks in my back required an action plan last year, I purchased a
camper. We no longer load up the boat and head for the other side of the lake to set up our TENT camp. Rather, we now ' plug ' in and the boat is secured at the dock.
Since this Memorial Day Holiday was very rainy (a whole lot of rainy), the camper was wonderful !!

Many tent camper's left the area after the first night of downpour's, due to wet tent floors and sleeping bags.. Hey, it IS the mountain's
and it looks like Jurassic Park for a reason - rain, lots of rain : - )
