The lake is filled with planter sized rainbows and cutthroat trout right now. There were numerous boats on the water yesterday and everyone was catching fish. I kept count until I reached 30 fish and finished up shortly after that. It would sure be nice if Fish and Wildlife would change their program and plant only fish over 12 inches. The 6-8" fish are all too often caught, mishandled and then tossed aside for larger fish . They eventually die or become food for the many predatory birds in the area. I don't think that we want our fishing license fees being used to supply bird food, at least I know I don't!

Anyway, it was a great day out on the lake. I trolled flies most of the morning hooking fish after fish. Most were small but I did take a few over 12 inches. And just before I quit around 2:30 I was trolling on the side of the lake opposite the boat launch when suddenly right next to me a LARGE fish pushed a huge wake of water about 15 feet from my pontoon. I didn't actually see the fish but I'm sure that it had to be in the 10lb or larger class! Not very many of those left there now but there are a few.

Just a final word, a word of caution: if you fish from the boat launch dock be sure to cast your line on the opposite side of the dock from where boats are launched. Yesterday the park patrol came down and told several to read the posted signs. I'm sure that the lake is being watched carefully by F&W enforcement so it's best to play by the rules. Tight lines everyone!
