We began trolling at the far northern part of the lake which is where I reside at 5:45pm. There are very few fish populating the north western section of this lake besides the occasional largemouth hiding beneath a dock. I was trolling a 1/16th glitter perch colored rooster tail 50 feet behind the boat flat-lining, traveling at about an average of 2 to 3 miles per hour.
The weather graced my boat with a clear sky and slight breeze with an occasional cloud blocking the direct sunlight. Beginning at 6:30pm I caught my first small mouth at 14 inches and approximately 2 lbs. Nearly 5 minutes went by after successfully landing and releasing my first catch I felt a snag-like tug from my pole followed by 2 quick bumps which assured me this was a fish--not a boot. I fought this baby believing at first that it might just be the same fish i just released but luck would have it that after a 10 minute fight on 6lb test vanish I would land a 21 inch 7.4 lb small mouth on the very same 1/16th rooster tail. During the trip back to my dock at 7:00pm I reeled in 2 consecutive 12' rainbows.
