Fished deer lake on opening day from 400pm till 645 pm and next day about same time. Was casting/trolling a Basspro shops XPS lazer eye micro spinner bait "shad color" (really black rooster tail type back, silver/black blade up front) and couldn't avoid pulling in trout. Great action on lure, easy to cast, pretty cheap...highly recommend for early season planted trout. Boated three over 12 inches, and half dozen or so smaller ones in less than 45 mins. I trolled at a slow pace (less than 2mph) and just drifted and cast. Best part of the lake was southwest corner, by a floating dock (can't miss it.) The trout were pretty stupid, and easy to catch limit. Also fished a silver/red rooster tail with blood red hooks, worked pretty good. Stick with natural silver colors for now, various baits work also, but that is boring. No bites on bass yet, too much pressure on trout right now, and water still a little cold.

I fish this lake often, but first time for trout.
