I spent opening day on Storm Lake and the actual fishing was decent. I took home two rainbows and lost a few bites. I saw perhaps ten fish over fifteen inches caught, but there were no troutzillas. The hospitality on the lake was phenomenal, though. A family on the north shore set up a grill and a kitchen on their dock and fed every person fishing on the lake. They had a huge sign that said Free Food and they called over every angler who trolled or drifted within earshot. They handed out hotdogs, cookies, chips and beverages to every boat. They explained that they were new to the community and wanted to make a special event out of opening day. They certainly did. Any time that cheerful, beautiful women give me food and tell me my fish are huge, I am one happy angler. The family told me that this was an experiment in hospitality, quite possibly a one shot deal, so don't show up hungry at the lake. If anyone reading this knows them, please send my thanks along again.

PS. This lake has lots of decent spiny ray fishing later in the year. If you feel like catching and releasing thirty bluegill in a day, throw little bits of worm into shore structure starting in June.
