Took my daughter out on Opening Day morning for 2 hours. Fished by slowly drift-trolling garden hackle in the top 5-10 feet of water. Had on #8 hooks with a half-night crawler & a small split-shot about 8" above the worm. She Caught 5 - 4 catchables 8-11" and a 16-inch TroutLake triploid in good shape. She was mad because I'd forgotten the landing net & she lost 2 other triploids!
On Sunday, we didn't get to the lake until noon and the crowd was considerably smaller than the O.D. crowd. We used the same gear, and I fished as well. We ended up with a limit by 4pm - 5 catchables and 5 triploids and Eells Springs jumbo diploids from 14 to 18 inches. One of the jumbos had TWO plastic worms in its gullet (!!), obviously stolen from the bassers in the recent past. Thank goodness I'd remembered the trout net or I'd have caught HE** again.....
Munn Lake had the best Opening Day CPUE for the Thurston County lakes (3.3 trout/angler), according to the WDFW morning creel census folks. Good job WDFW, there were lots of happy folks on the lake this weekend.
