OK, newbies here is a true and trite method for catching trout. First, your mainline should be 10-12 lbs. Attach a slinky cloth lead weight(6-8 inches or whatever you prefer). Then attach a Ford Fender with a orange or green wedding band using a 30 inch leader. Hook size: #2 (not 2 ot) worm hook. Slide a nightcrawler onto the hook ; up and over the eye with the remainder sliding and covering the tip of the hook and up to the eye. Trolling for trout at 1.8 to 2.1 mph seems to be best. If you don't have a speed indicator all you have to do is watch the end of your pole and when its doing a slow throbbing up and down movement then that tells you that you have the correct speed. Next, allow your reel guide to go back and forth 8-10 times and you'll be out far enough to begin catching your trout. Be patient as have their own criteria as to when they are in a feeding mood. Sometimes you can easily go 2 hours and more before they strike. There are no secrets as to when they'll hit. On Sammamish, Pardner and I have limited with 2 hours but its few and far between when this occurs. Do not give up on the aforementioned method as it constantly works for us. That being said, it doesn't hurt to try other methods as in life a lot is trial and error and learning. Have fun and enjoy!!!!!
