Six of us on a weekend float trip down the Yakima River, decided to try Fiorito Ponds for a relaxing day on the water after floating the excessively high Yakima River the day before. What a great set of lakes. Once on the water, we split up and went all directions. With all of us having walkie talkies, we soon discovered what was working and where the fish were.
The north pond is on the average about 10-12ft. deep. The south pond has areas that are up to 20ft. deep. The water temperature was 61 degrees and very clean and clear. There were some caddis flies coming out of the grass and trees on the shoreline, with some fish rising to them. Most of the fish caught were running about 11" in size. One guy in the party landed and released a 22" rainbow. Two other guys had the same size fish up to the boat and then lost them.
The rainbows were hitting on red and green leech patterns, atomic worms and choronamids. This is definitely a lake that we will keep in mind for our weekend fishing trips to the Ellensburg area.
