The Fishing Derby (first annual went well) June 8th. The early anglers were out with worms and other assorted bait before the early birds got out of bed.

The weather cooperated with light sprinkles and overcast conditions most of the day. The hard rain didn't start until after the closing time arrived and cleanup was accomplished. Some complained a little about the cold but mostly a good time was had by all. ALS Ambulance Of Yakima was on hand all day for mishaps of which there were none reported.

The 3000 plus fish were introduced into the Lake Friday night. Tagged fish 002 was caught by an Angler in one of the flagged boats. The prize for 002 was $250.00. There were football players working shifts shuttling anglers of all ages down the lake road to locations of their choice along the bank. Raffle drawings every hour with lots of happy winners of donated prizes kept a steady flow of activity past the registration desk outside the store. The Wenas Lake Restaurant served breakfast consisting of Biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, orange quarter, and orange juice. Shifted into lunch/dinner with BBQ chicken hind quarter, baked beans, dinner roll, butter, orange quarter, and bottle water. More than 100 meals were served mostly in the dining room to a steady stream of hungry participants.

Notice - Tagged fish #004 donated by Great Hope Christian Church was one of the fish not caught. However, this fish will remain worth cash. This is the only fish still of value to the lucky angler that brings it in. If caught and verified at the Wenas Lake Resort the lucky (or skilled) angler will receive a $25.00 cash prize. If any of the other tagged fish are caught now that the derby is over, Bon Appetite

All the NVHS Booster Club, Naches School District Employees - Teachers/Coaches, etc., Naches Valley High School Football Players, Friends and Family volunteers, and Wenas Lake Resort, Inc. workers were really tired as were all the anglers but a good time was had by all and we are looking forward to doing it again next year.
