Went to target bucket mouths, couldn’t catch one to save my life. We threw everything but the kitchen sink at ‘em. (Maybe I should have tried that!) Spinners, plugs, jig ‘n pig, worms, grubs, tubes, drop shot yada yada yada. Didn’t have a thermometer so I don’t know what the water temp was. We couldn’t see any spawning beds; I haven’t been to Downs in a while and forgot just how weedy it was. I would be curious as to what the water temp was, have no idea if they have spawned yet or not. We did hook a few on the edge of the lilies flipping & pitching but never got them to the boat. Saw some big boils and bigger splashes back in the thick of the lilies.

There were so many trout jumping I am surprised one didn’t jump in the boat. We switched to trolling Rapalas in the perch pattern as well as a clown pattern and hooked a few rainbows. Trolled wedding rings back to the launch and hooked a few more.

Anything is better than being skunked, but certainly would have liked to see some bass to the boat.

The bass are done with the spawn, with the water temp. in the mid 60 degree range right now on most of the near-by lakes. Downs may be high 60 range by now.
