We went to the lake in the evening hoping to catch some catfish but caught trout instead. We started about 5 pm and fished til 9:30 pm. At first we didn't catch much except for a few small bluegill. Then about 8:30 pm as we were thinking about calling it a day I caught a big trout, but as I was reaching out to grab it, it fell off the hook and back into the water. It was a VERY nice fish and I was bummed at losing it. I would guess it to be around 16-18 inches. Hurts to talk about it.
Then a few minutes later, the end of my pole jiggled and I pulled up a 12 inch rainbow. My brother ( who hadn't caught anything yet) tried some of my power bait and instantly caught an 18 inch rainbow. So I threw on more powerbait and caught another 12 inch rainbow. Then nothing! we fished for about 45 more min and then went home, It was an overcast day with a lot of wind and choppy water. There weren't very many people out. A couple of boats and a few on shore, but as it got later, people left, and we were the last ones there when we finally left.
One thing I have been wanting to catch are crawdads/crayfish. Does anyone know where I can try? I tried Liberty lake and Hog Canyon when it was open, but so far nothing. When is the best time of year? I have done some research. but there isn't much out there on that. I found lots of info on technique, but not on time of year and exactly where. Thanks

Crawdads can be found readily on the Spokane River, especially on portions of the river in the Spokane valley. Try Plante's Ferry Park or portions upriver from the Green street bridge. Be careful though, there are lots of heavy metals in the Spokane and crawdads are probably being contaminated. Try snorkeling for them or fill a stocking or trap with catfood. The stocking will entangle them though, traps are nice because you can leave them for quite a while without loosing many.

We fished from the dock area. The fishing has always been good for us from opening day til about 1st of July, then it drops off. The last couple of weekends we haven't caught anything except bluegill. Not even catfish.

I know this is an old post, but here ya go. Crawdads prefer to eat oily fish. Go to your local fish market and buy some salmon heads and or guts too. Then, go to your local pet store or co-op (heck, wal-mart may even have them) and pick up a wire cage deal called a Suet feeder. They're usually about one inch deep and a five or so inch square. Using this as a bait box will allow the little buggers to actually eat because if they can't get at the food, they'll be trying to get out of your trap. Cut the fish head so it fits in there and secure it closed and into the center of your trap. Your best bet is to leave your trap over night as they feed mostly during the evening. As for when to get them, there is a season to them in this state so just check your regs. It's best earlier in the season, but anytime during the season should produce a catch. Oh yeah, also, they don't like mud, so wherever you fish look for rocky/sandy bottom lakes/rivers/creeks. If I remember correctly, you're allowed twenty pounds per day, haaha, that's a lot of daddies....mmmm
