Tough bite early with no fish sited at all. Close to noon, my partner had a good fish follow but wouldn't commit. Just a bit later I caught a 45"x21" musky. CPR'd of course.

Great looking, fat fish! I've had about a dozen follows in the last couple weeks. They get to the boat and I do the figure 8. They hang around for a while and then wander off. Any advice for triggering a strike at the boat? All the ones I hook drill it on the first couple cranks.

Getting a ski to commit in clear water at the boat on the 8 is tough to say the least but it can be done.
A smooth transition from retrieve to the 8 is essential plus I like to speed it up a bit and take it down some. Pretend you're playing 'keep away' with the ski. Make big turns so he can make them and make the lure seem like a frightened baitfish trying desparately to excape. Keep at it and you'll get the surprise of your life when one hammers you in the eight.
