I went back to Deep lake to try and catch "Gustav" as I call him(read my last report) anyways I was fishing through some of the down trees on the north side of the lake when I remembered that there was a huge wind storm some 24 years ago that damn near destroyed Enumclaw and Buckly and the park was thrashed which accounted for all the huge trees in the lake. I was pitching a 5 inch black, weedless/weightless Hula grub (Yamamoto # 176) below some cover when the telltale sign of the line tightening and moving started (Sneaky little critters) no hard thumps or pulls which is usually indicative of a larger more cautious LMB. I set it to the moon and reeled in and to my surprise I had a 2.5 lb SmallMouth!
Ive never caught one before and so I sat there looking at it after weigh in and realized how cool this fish is.
Still looking for Gustav and cant find him so I cast where I last saw him a week or 2 before near a huge log jam and I swear before my line even hit the water it snapped to attention and so having buck fever from this and not reeling until I felt weight I set the hook and my # 176 hula grub set a new altitude record of 17 feet. If it wasn't Gustav then it was one of his henchman......maybe Sven or Magnus? Little luck, but lots of fun. Long live GUSTAV!...biggest bass I've ever seen

P.S. the lake was so packed that there was little parking and no lake access for fishing so I had to barge through someones shore area to launch.....its definitely summer time!

I have been trying to find the time to get out to Deep Lake, I grew up out there, but haven't bass fished it yet. I will probably end up helping you in the search for Gustav
