I got on the water about 7:00am. There were a couple of fisherman using the docks on the east side of the lake. Water was warm at the surface (about 77 degrees), but at 20' the temperature was reading between 68 and 70. It has been almost a month since I last fished this lake and the fish have moved from the edges of the lake into the deep pockets found at the South and West ends. The fish finder was showing large pockets of fish at 20+ feet with some on or near the bottom which is around 40' in the deep areas.

I began with a dragon fly nymph as there was a LARGE hatch of dragons on the lake. By 8:30 there were as many dragon flies as I have seen at any areas lake at anytime. There was good hatches of Damsels and Mayflies as well. Using the large dragon fly nymph I caught 3 Tigers within 15 min. One if these was the largest Tiger Trout I have ever caught. It measured 19 1/2" and was most likely in the 3+ pound range. This was one of the hardest fighting fish (pound for pound) I have tied into in a long time. This is a good sign that the Tigers are wintering well here as this fish was probably planted 2 years ago. Previously, I have caught a few Tigers in the 18" range at Black Lake and a few 15" ones at Fish, but this one was the longest and by far the fattest.

After the sun was up the fishing turned off for about an hour or so. I changed to my dry fly setup as Began to see some surface activity. I used a extended body Mayfly pattern I tie on an Umbrella Hook. It worked first cast as I landed a 10" Brookie. I caught 2 more and lost 2 before the hatch was over.

I returned to the sinking line and a damsel nymph this time. In the next hour I hooked 6 and landed 5 more Tigers and Brookies. Nothing larger than 14" or smaller than 10"

The day began to get pretty hot and with no breeze it was like sitting on a mirror out there. I left around 11:00am.

All in all a pretty good day.
