Sammi thought Diamond lake might be good fishing in the evenings for perch, and we hadn't done that end of the day there yet, so I said sure why not. Sitting in the boat anywhere beats sitting on the couch.
We launched at a little after 7pm and headed to the place we have found perch before. We used our drop shot rigs with 2 plastic jig heads and skirts set at 1 and 3 feet off the bottom and 1/2 a night crawler. Anchored in 30 feet of water and started fishing. It took 15 mins to get the first bite and fish in the boat. After that is was just crazy. We got hit after hit and landed fish after fish. 38 fish in all in 2 hours. 30 perch, 7 trout and one catfish. The trout didn't start biting until the sun was over the hill but the perch were nonstop. Sammi even caught 2 fish at once, one on each jig. A nice brown trout and a nice perch. She always has to one up me. heh
It was the best perch fishing we have had yet this year! We kept 19 for fish & chips night and tossed back the smaller ones and the catfish. And the trout were a nice bonus too!
We found this one certain spot where the perch always seem to be at by slowly bouncing a drop shot along the shore line in 20-30 feet of water while fishing for trout a few weeks ago. The bottom changes from smooth sand or mud to a gravel bottom in a small area.
Where is this spot? Go about 300 yards to the west of the launch (left) and look for a newly cleared lot on the steep hillside that is currently covered with straw to stop erosion. Stop straight out in from of it about 150 feet from shore in 25-30 feet of water. Fish on the bottom with a jig and a worm. And bring a bucket.
But if 2 people in a 12 foot camo aluminum boat come along, you'll have to move. :)
