Well, this is not about Lake Sammamish, it's about Phantom Lake, which is not available on this web site. Maybe it's too small?
After reading two books "Fishing for Dummies" and "Idiot's Fishing Basics", we went to Phantom Lake in Bellevue to try our luck. This is virtually my first time ever fishing in my 47-turning-48 years of life, and also for my 8-year-old son. Two days in a row, we went there very early in the morning, 6:30AM-ish. We have a 9' inflatable raft. In two days, we got 4 little ones -- 3 yellow perches and 1 smallmouth bass, all around 5"-6" and we just let them go. Well, this may be pathetic for other fellow fishermen, but it's a great triumph for first-timers like us, and especially for me because I get to take my son go fishing!!!
Funny thing is, all these 4 fishes were caught on naked hooks, no bait, no lure, nada (we used naked hooks because we just wanted to practice casting.) Two of them were caught using a shiny silver size 8 single hook, the other two were caught with a dark-brownish size 6 single hook. As excited as we were, we tried other things, like worms, spinners, power bait, and salmon eggs. But nothing worked, only naked hooks worked! This really puzzled me. But anyway, we both were as excited as we can be!
Both days we used a bobber to set the depth to about 3' to 5'. Maybe next time I can try taking out the bobber and let the hook sink to the bottom. Before then, I will look for some video tapes about fishing 101 :-)
Fishing is fun! Viva la fishing!
