Took the afternoon off to try my luck at Long Lake. Got to the ramp about 1:30pm and launched my Tracker. Lots of skiers and pleasure boaters already there, as expected. Headed to the north end of the lake and tried some crankbaits in the "deep" (about 10 feet) creek channel that runs past the park. No luck, so I moved over to the shady (west) bank and started flipping a Texas-rigged green with gold flake Sweet Beaver into the shallows. Got a couple hits around some laydowns, then found one spot behind a tree parallel to the bank that I pulled three straight bass from on three consecutive casts. They weren't all that big (the largest was about a pound and a half), but it was an exciting 10 minutes anyway. I later managed a couple rainbows (?) on Rapala Shad Raps where I could find some open water and then a couple tiny bass (about the size of the lure) on a Zara Spook once the sun went down, but that was the extent of the action. The lake is pretty much choked with weeds, so I probably won't be back here until the spring. It's just too much trouble having to clean off my bait and my trolling motor every few minutes.
