I got out to my favorite spot a little before the sun came up. I should have checked the calendar before I went fishing. Today was national harass an angler day, at least on Lake Tapps. A boat pulling a skier through a no-wake zone and under a bridge with a sign “unlawful to ski under bridge” came within about 6 feet of me while I was fishing. I got a nice little spray from that one. Another group of kids came by and shouted something about me needing a steering wheel. And another ski boat decided to use the no-wake markers as a slalom course. That aside, it was a great day fishing for Smallmouths. Using a 3” weightless senko and fishing it slow I caught several nice ones. The biggest one was 2.25 lbs and I had another just over 2 lbs. I had another smally hooked that fought better than any I have ever had before. I had him up beside the boat, he was huge, I reached for him and he took off on another run, fought a little longer, and then broke my line. I should have re-tied my line before that fish. I had caught four good sized fish before him, I knew better, it could have been avoided. I’ve learned my lesson – re-tie, re-tie, re-tie.
