Finally on the fourth outing landed a salmon. Fished (8:10 am) the south end of the lake along with several dozen other boats. Downrigger at 30' with 50' water depth. Trolled dodger, 18" leader and 2 3/0 red hooks. Fish weighted in about 13 lbs.

I HOPE YOU KEPT THAT ONE. THOSE SAMMAMISH SALMON ARE GOOD EATING.!! DID YOU JUST USE THE RED HOOKS BARE?

I hope you threw that one back. That thing really turned in color and that meat wouldn't be any good...

I practice catch and release (usually photo and release) for fish that are local to where I caught them, i.e. smallmouth bass. However the salmon that are being caught will be spawned out and die in a matter of days and I have no problem keeping the fish that I catch. You can bet that if the salmon being kept impact the hatchery operations the G&F dept will lower the limit.

Another thought: Some anglers think the primary objective of the Issaquah hatchery is to raise salmon to be caught by anglers.

Although not as bright as fish caught in the sound, almost all can be smoked or will grill nicely on the bbq.
