i went to capitol again today for some more king action. i got there about 730am and left about 2. i only caught two fish, a jack at 22 inches and a pretty nice hen I'm guessing it was around 15 pounds(37 1/4" long, 20" in girth) it looks really dark in the picture but it wasn't too bad. i was using eggs and a corky off the bottom plunking. i broke 2 other fish off, i think the rocks were making my line get frayed.

Reel_Nut - i think its called tumwater historical park i believe its right off Deschutes Way. just drive through the park to the trail head and you will probably see people fishing under and around the bridge there's also a public dock and a small boat launch.

Bass Tracker - it looks like it would be a good bass lake to me but i think they backflush it with salt water every once in a while to keep the eurasian milfoil infestation subdued, so im not sure if they would survive. i have seen crawfish in it though.

How would I get there from FT. Lewis, I'm new to the area and I'm not sure how to get to this place, I'd like to try it. Thanks

im on I-5 northbound to get there so i take exit 103 deschutes way and its right off of deschutes way, but i dont think there is an exit 103 coming from the north. you might look up tumwater historical park and get an adress of some sort

Thanks Jacob for the tip. I would love to get my pontoon boat out there and reel in a 10+ king, lol.

Great Fish,
I'm a total newbie, would you spare me an explanation on how you are landing these fish?
I just moved into the Olympia area and feel the need to catch a salmon, but I don't even have a rig.
Are there any resources you would suggest or good bait shops where someone could point me in the right direction?
Let me know & Thanks,
Josh

sportsmans warehouse would be a good place to go, and the employees are usually fairly knowledgable. im closer to chehalis than i am to olympia so i usually shop down here. im sure somebody on this site could point you to a good place. im using a 9'6" baitcasting outfit with 10 pound test, its kind of excessively long but it does the trick, you would probly be better off with a spinning rod being a beginner. just make sure if you hook a fish not to reel against the drag too much, i see people doing it all the time and when you reel against the drag on a spinning reel it twists the line leading to a tangled mess or breaking your fish off.

Thanks for the advice, its much appreciated. It's now my official mission to catch a Salmon out of Capitol Lake.
Some other questions: On your other post you said you were plunking from the bottom, what does this mean and how could I reproduce the set up?
Also, I read that people were using bobbers and egg sacs, I understand the fundamentals of this set up, but how could I reproduce it (i.e. buy the bait & tackle), and also, how deep would I want to position the bait underneath the bobber?
Thanks for bearing with me,
Josh
