With the lake closing at the end of the month, I thought that I would give it one last try for the year. The weather was o.k. except for the 10-20 mph wind that lasted the entire day. The temperature was 66 degrees and the water surface temperature was 61 degrees. The water was very clear.
I was able to land only 3 rainbows, one 20" and two 16". I lost about four while bringing them in. The fish appeared to be anchored to the bottom in many areas, so I stayed in 20' deep water on the west side and dragged a leech along the bottom, right above the weeds. This proved to be the most successful method with the wind blowing all day.
The rainbows had a lot of energy, looked quite healthy and had good body mass. This year has been a low producing year, this according to other anglers also. It is puzzling, because the fish are healthy and according to the fish finder, there is a large quantity of them.
2006 was an excellent year. Maybe next year will be better.
