We logged another great time at Liars Cove Resort on Conconully reservoir. We were not able to get there last year and were pleased to see the lake fuller with the dock moved and extended. A lot of fish were being caught right from the dock. The first two days, the weather was cooler with a few snow/hail showers. Fishing as always was good, including the catching. No need to be an early bird on the water as fishing was always strong tell mid day. With limits every morning between 8 and 11 AM. That gave us time for reading, fresh trout dinners and walking the neat trail into Conconully town and back. The deer and quail are ever present. Day 2 I caught a 5 lb hold over and then a beautiful 14 inch rainbow on a gray nymph, trolled slowly. Day 4 I landed a 5lb 11oz beauty back to back with a 3lb 14 oz dandy that had me thinking I was on the Kenai river in Alaska with a 22lb silver zipping by. ( I was fishing with an ultra light rod and my very old ultra light Mitchell spinning reel with 2lb test line and a 1 lb test leader that morning.) I caught the two minutes apart while another fisherman was enjoying a similar experience nearby. We hooted and hollered like a couple of kids, (we were for the moment), then let the boats drift together and talked our heart rates down to somewhere normal. Its really fun to catch at least one of these a year, but two back to back was a real thrill for me. That's the bonus for being on Conconully Reservoir, but what's most important is a peaceful place to camp with great hosts like Nita and Arnie at Liars Cove Resort.
