Arrived at Fish Lake around 7:30 after driving out from Leavenworth, where the thermometer at our hotel read around 3 below zero. Despite dire warnings from the Cove Resort folks about the ice being too thin, we found the ice to be around 24" thick. We fished it hard for about 8 hours and came out with 7 pan sized rainbows, largest running about 14 inches.
Also picked up a nice, fat 9" perch. I mainly used shrimp for bait (salad type shrimp from the grocery store) but Dave, my fishin' buddy for life, had a 2 hook rig with a Swedish Pimple and used shrimp PLUS a worm, and caught the most fish.
We estimated the depth around 10-15 feet, and caught most just off the bottom, but had one hit just below the ice, too.
Got snowed on the last half of the day, and had a tough time staying warm, but had a great time overall. Will go again if we can ! Dress warm, and make sure you have $6 cash for parking at Cove Lake Resort !
