I was up in the Okanogan this last weekend. Stopped by the store in Mallot that is just off the bridge to inquire about Rat Lake. I remember ice fishing there some years ago and doing quite well on some rather large rainbows and, in years past, on some brookies. I went up there to check out the steelheading and it looks like I will be able to fish for both this winter. I spent an hour in the store as it was raining Sunday and lots of other outdoorsmen (hunters too) coming in to get warm (and get some coffee). They have fresh homemade pastries for 33 cents each! I could not believe the price though the beer was a bit more. Ha. The Fish and Game opened the river to hatchery fish and it is HOT! I guess all those years of closure. If anyone fishes up there, I would welcome reports when you go. I live in Ellensburg but go up there to visit family and friends when the fishing is good.
