What were the result of this trip and tactics? Did you catch anything? And how much vegetation was there? Great info.

I started out using 4 in, power bait craw; no luck. then suspended hard bait; no luck . Didnt catch any thing. The pads around the swimming area are under water. The other end the same. The grass is there and 3 foot under water, according to the fish finder. Picked up lots of fish around the island. There at the wrong time.

Trent I have not bottom fished a lake for bass? sounds like great fun. I have done my bass fishing on Rivers, any tips for lake bottoms?

pacificpride; I like to fish rivers also, Back in Pensacola, Fl fishing rivers is where you will catch the bigger fish. Even in the rivers I would use plastics, bottom fishing. Back in 86 I met a guy that had a box of plastics and few cranks, no top water no jigs, just mainly worms, not just any worms he used Culprits. I had always used top water jointed or spinners. We went out to a small pond where I was catching big blue gill on beetle spins. Before I could put the boat in the water he landed 3 bass using 7.5 black blue worms. I was astonished, he was right by the boat and never moved. We got in the boat and he caught 4 more in about 25 ft. This guy was skunking me bad, I hadn't caught any thing. He showed me a keeper hook 1/8 weight and gave me a junebug worm. My way of fishing changed that day, and I have stuck with it ever since. I have a 10 lb on the wall to prove it. I caught her with black 7.5 culprit, my second cast from the bank. I moved to Belfair,Wa in 96 and I thought my bass fishing was over. On Easter day we went to Buck lake so the kids could egg hunt, while having a smoke I noticed the water almost parted with a big splash. I thought that was not a trash fish well I mean trout. I came back the next week end and had a blast. I also went to a place called the Oak patch pond unreal bass fishing. The first time at Island lake I caught lots of bass 4 of them were in the 3-5 lbs. There is one in there that makes my wall mount look small. I guss 12-14 lbs she has broken my line 5 times and I'm using 17 lbs test she would be a nice catch. Each time she hit I was using 12 in. junebug she swims away from small baits fast . Another lake to fish is Haven Ive caught 2 over 7 and seen one that's at least 15+ . The only bait I use that's small is a craw fish. The most is the 10.5 monster worms, unless its a 10+ fish I use 12 in. Also larger spinners slow rolling. The smaller fish cant eat the larger baits but they will try. Don't lay your rod down when using 10.5 worms you could be out a rod and a big bass.
