Hit the lake around 10:30 with a 12' boat and started trolling with a 1/6 oz. white Rooster Tail and had quite some luck. The wind was blowing when we (my father and I) started out, but not so much that our 46 lb. electric trolling motor couldn't handle it. My dad was using a red Rooster Tail and we both caught and released about 5 'bows each before the wind died down. They were about 9" and good fighters, several unhooked themselves before we could get to them. Once the wind stopped the bite slowed down, but it was still enough to cure the winter blues. After an hour and a half of trolling around my dad hooked into an excellent fighter. When we got it into the boat we saw what a prize it was. About 18" long and fat, it was the reddest rainbow I've ever seen. After a quick cell-phone snap-shot and measuring against a pole we let him go to fight another day. A few minutes after that he (my dad, not the fish) got another good bow that ended up snapping the leader before we could check him out, but it must have been a pretty good size. We couldn't head in on that note, so we trolled for about a half hour more, my dad putting on a green/black Wedding Ring and having limited success. I hooked a few more and we called it a day. I talked with one of the bank fishermen and he said that they weren't biting that close to shore, so if any one plans on heading up to Roses, which I highly recommend, then I suggest you take a boat.

All in all it was a successful and beautiful, if chilly, day. We'll definitely be back after buying a few more Rooster Tails, and maybe try some bass fishing.
