My brother in law and I went fishing at Lower Goose and got skunked, the previous weekend we caught two good size largies. The fishing sucked the next weekend so we went to a lake that i scoped out the previous day, frenchman hills lake off of road d onFrenchman hills road just near dodsen rode in grant county. I live in george and i have to say that the area is full of good fishing holes. But Frenchman was full of surprises. I got on the water around noon, i fished for maybe 30 minutes before i got my first hit. It was a big one! the fish was on and flashed, despite the cloudy water, she was a biggin! Then she threw the hook. i watched her wake as she shot off for cover across the lake. i quickly casted way out in front of her and slow retrieved the lure back. She hit it again! This time i set the hook and let her tire herself out. The fight lasted for almost 15 minutes. When i netted her i was ecstatic! this fish was at least five pounds and fat. she swallowed the bait and i hooked her in the nose! i continued fishing after that thinking i would not get anymore fish that day but i was wrong. By three thirty i had caught six largies total. All over ten inches and a two more over 14inches! When we returned the nest day my brother in law fished fro the shore line in waders and got skunked but i was on a pontoon inflatable and caught two more good size bass! With water coming in for the water district the level of Frenchman will rise considerably and the fish will work themselves out. I recommend trying this lake to anyone who is getting skunked, heck you might get lucky.
Tackle: I used an Okuma spinning reel with my secret 6 foot 6 inch medium action rod, with ten pound flourocarbon line. i used a gama single barbed off set worm hook and the mother of all poor water clarity baits, a Zoom 8 inch black and red vibrotail soft worm. I would cast right along the reed banks and let the bait sink in the few feet f water, then i would do a slow steady retrieve, the fish were hitting the bait hard! Every fish i caught had the bait deep in the mouth and almost every fish was set in the nose. Try it. If the water clarity is clearer i would move to a pumpkin or a green finesse worm and try a slow retrieve or a slo jerked retrieve. Happy Fishing!
