Fishing Dry Falls in November is always challenging to me. Based on the weather forecast, it was supposed to be sunny, 5-MPH wind, and high at 46-degree F. So I decided to use a 6-weight medium fast rod, Type 5 uniform sinking line, 12' tapered leader, and 10' 5X tippet. Of course, as usual, I wanted to fish the shoal (15' - 20'-deep areas) in the afternoon (primarily from 1 PM to 3 PM) and to use a dark nymph pattern (Pheasant Tail or brown Hare's Ear in 14-2X size). The lake was relatively calm and there were only 3 flyfishermen (2 chironomid fishermen and me) in the entire lake. As planned, I started fishing around 1:20 PM, but I did not get any strike at all till 2:20 PM. In the next 40 minutes I lost 2 fish and landed 3 healthy-looking bows (17", 16", and 12"). I had to work hard, but I was glad that my fishing strategy worked okay.

Fishing Dry Falls in November may be challenging to everybody, but flyfishing may not be bad as long as one has an effective fishing strategy.
