fished lacamas lake today to try and find the spawning beds. walked the trail fishing all my usual spots, with a jig n' craw, and a wacky rigged senko. had no bites so i walked back to the bridge and fished the lacamas lake side for about 10 minutes and actually switched my approach to a texas rigged senko and really liked the way it was swimming so i made a couple casts toward a fallen tree and then on the third cast my lure was exploded on by a very large bass, maybe approaching 8lbs. the bass shook his head and came to the surface exploding out of the water and then dove down and i heard the one thing every fisherman dreads. SNAP. i almost threw my pole into the water, i was so angry, the bass was the biggest one i had ever hooked and the largest bass i have seen in person. this made me so angry i went home. i plan on going back with heavier line and trying for this bruiser again.

Until then tight lines.

Happened twice to me last year! One around 9 and one over state record!!!! The 9 pounder the hook came out but the big one ran toward a tree I had to thumb the spool until either the fish turned or the line broke. I feel your pain!

That sucks. I tell lots of friends that when fishing jigs or plastics to use 20-25 lbs test line, because most of the fish in spring that bite will be lunkers. When your looking for spawning bass, dont fish for the one on bed. The bedding bass is a male, the female is 12-25 feet away watching the male on bed.The male will give away where she is if you watch him. If you catch the male first, she will not bite at all.One more thing if the male looks to be 4+ lbs the female is a lot bigger a lot bigger. I have had bass on the hit brake 17 lb test.
