Ice, Ice, Ice, and now snow. Not being sure of what to expect I and a Veteran buddy, Dennis decided to forgo the drive the Banks/ Roosevelt/Rufus Woods areas and try closer to home. I had called Big Wally's and been advised that Banks was frozen, Rufus was pretty busy, and Roosevelt was kicking out some rainbows. I've fished all three and done well at times, but the weather is always a variable. Dennis dug out his 16' LUND and we hit out for Upper Goose, after all I had seen a little success earlier this month on rainbows.
We launched around 0800 and before the boat even settled two 'bows were boated, both respectable and around 16" .Four more followed with the biggest probably 19" or more. By this time Dennis was a couple of fish ahead of me but my last two brought me even, and in my book brought me well ahead. I had detected a subtle bite and patiently paused before setting the hook, not my usual trout response. It might have been the cold wind that by now was slowing us both, as I brought the fish up I noted it was giving a strong headshake, hmmm, walleye ??
sure enough a nice fat 'eye as big or bigger than our best trout. The 'eye was quickly returned. now I was excited and promptly rewarded with another 'eye slightly smaller but very welcome. It too was returned. For a little lake that has never been that good to me, I gotta say thanks. And best of luck to all of you out there, keep dry and safe on '04
