Got a in a late evening fish on 2 June. Got started trolling around 6 P.M. Got our first fish within the first half hour. Found that the ticket to catching the walleyes on Crank baits is using side planer boards. Was only running one planer but caught 5 fish within an hour. The fish typically turn off around 9-9:30. Have not tried an early morning fish yet, but will be this weekend. The hot bait for me has been the shad rap. Seems like the fish are more responsive to the action of the bait and not the color. Any #7 shad rap seems to work, but getting the baits off to the side of the boat seems to be the best method for trolling. I am not using fancy planers either, just using yellow birds. Simple but effective.
