hi everyone, well i finally did it... made our way over two passes and hit rufus.. i had a little help before i got there.. an old time friend Stampie is a member of the site.. turns out I have known him for almost thirty years.. small world.. i left Tuesday morning and was able to get a room for a couple nights and get the boat in the water. we weren't fishing the pen or even close to them........ stampie tells me there is fish all over that lake. so i was at the furthest end from the big dam.... before hitting the road i threw my steelhead poles back in the boat and loaded 10lb test on the mainline... and found three dare devil spoons i had laying in the bottom of my tackle junk box. Not sure how they are sized by weight or length. two spoons were were 2 inches and the third was 3.5 inches long.. had my 4 year old boy and my wife.. so there were three poles out.... with three dare devils out.. trolling slow slow slow... the weather was nasty.. one front after the other was blowing through... i had heaters on board. the fishing report goes like this.. I hated to leave..... I fished weds from 5:30am till 8pm.... i must of had on 40 fish.... with six fish total limit.... it had to be 3lb plus... by noon we were up to four in the boat one 5lb, three 3 pounders.. with two to go but now it had to be 6 pounds plus...... at around three pm the rain finally quit and the sun popped out and it was warming up... then out of know where it was on!.... Fish on!!. the 9 foot medium lamiglas was bent over to the reel seat and it was acting like i hooked a big king with thirty feet of line out...... I grabbed the pole in a panic... the fish would not turn.... i couldn't get it to turn around... it grabbed the 3.5 long red a white dare devil. a was peeling line off..... i had the fish on for three or four minutes.. i was leaning back on him maybe too hard.. Then gone... I lost . it was gone....... what a rush!! i going back forget the cowlitz.... this is where ill be for the next month later...................
