I arrived at Lake Ki at 7:00 am. There was one boat on the lake and one about to launch. No one fishing from shore that I could see. It was 43 degrees outside and the water temp was 52.2 degrees F. I began trolling a wedding ring tipped with a night crawler and right of the bat I hooked and landed a nice plant, about 12 inches. I continued trolling and came across literally thousands of fish showing up on my fish finder in 45 to 50 feet of water, holding from about 20 feet to the bottom. See hotspot. I trolled back and fourth without another bite, and eventually changed over to power bait and a worm just drifting over all these fish on the finder. I had one solid strike and landed the second trout which was about 11 inches. I continued to soak bait with no other bites so I switched back to trolling using a Mack’s flash lite and wedding ring w/worm, and also tried a couple flatfish all with no strikes. I switched back to bait for the last half hour or so before calling it quits and had only two other bites which I was unable to hook up on. These fish are just mouthing the bait so it was challenging to hook them using bait. I have encountered this light mouthing bite here using bait for years so it was nothing new. It was cloudy and cold and the wind started up so I left the lake at 10:15 am. It was a fun trip but once again it was slow rendering the rating of 2. I have now fished two different lakes, 3 times in the last 5 days. The bite and water temp were the same at both lakes further supporting the hunch that the water is just a bit too cold and affecting the bite. It will be interesting to see what happens when the water temp reaches the upper 50’s in a couple weeks. Lastly, I am surprised to see almost no Snohomish / Skagit County Reports. It would be nice to hear how McMurray, Armstrong, Howard, Erie, Pass, and a host of others in these two counties are producing, or not. Good luck fishin.
