So my mother came over for the week, I got her tickets to Alan Jackson at the Arena. Tuesday we decided to go out and hit Silver and see if we couldn't get her 1st Tiger. Got launched at about 12:30. I rigged up her pole with a spinner bait and showed her how to use it. She proceeded to cast and retrieve right by the launch. I pointed out a dock and said that is a good spot for muskie. I then turned around to get my pole ready. I made my first cast and heard, "oh look a fish is following it!" I turner around just in time to see the muskie snatch the spinner bait from right beside my boat. As the muskie was darting away my mom asked, "what do I do now?" About a minute later the muskie was in the boat for a quick photo and then off to hide in the weeds. Didn't measure but he was about 30-32 inches. 10 minutes on the water and already 1 muskie!

WELL.... that was the only muskie in the boat in 7 hours. I missed a short striking muskie. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen when it comes to muskies. I was using a rapala x-rap. It just came into my view in the water on my retrieve and I noticed a large shadow behind it. Last year I would have had no clue what was going on, but at this point large shadow behind lure = TIGER... got it..... SO I twitched my bait forward and he made a quick move to stay right behind it, about an inch away. pause... pause.... twitch... and he snapped at the tail of the lure just barely getting it and I missed the hook set. He still stayed right there. pause... pause... twitch... and he darted at it again but didn't strike it. so I gave it a twitch twitch and he did the same thing, never letting my bait get more than an inch away from him. pause... pause... twitch, twitch... at this point I think he got tired of our little game and he just sat there. I proceeded for the next 15 minutes to offer to him everything I could but he wasn't interested. I probably watched him guard my lure for about 2 minutes.

About 10 minutes after giving up on muskie number 2 probably (36-40 inches) I saw muskie number 3. He couldn't have been longer than about 24 inches. Just cruising the weeds. He was a little more skiddish than the bigger ones and did not like my approaching boat.

So we cruised on over to one of my favorite areas of the lake. I was trying for some bass when I saw a silver lake monster! The biggest muskie I have seen at silver! He was definitely in the 40-44 inch range. He wanted nothing I could offer him.

So it was getting late and we were still in my favorite area of the lake when we saw muskie number 5 for the day. He was probably about 36 inches and disappeared quickly.

It was definitely good to see the muskie active. The bass on the other hand were almost non-existent.

Did a little bass fishing also but they were really tough to find! I managed 2 little 1 pounders but that was it. One of them actually hit my Rapala Magnum that was supposed to be eaten by a very large muskie who did not get the memo.

I will post photos soon.
