Weekend fishing with my 6yrs old son for the first time. Prior to arriving at the lake I knew that my time would be spent mostly with my son and teaching him how to fish. We fished in the late morning and early evening. Each time my son had a fish-on within the first minute using power eggs along with a #14 bait hook. After that first fish things slowed down greatly. The fish were definitely planters ranging from 8"-10". Actual fishing time for the weekend was probably about 2hrs and four fish total. I would cast and hand the rod over to him for the fishing. It worked out well because the lakes tree line comes right down to the water and creates casting hazards for the inexperience not to mention the submerged logs close to shore. Not a kid friendly lake to learn to cast for the first time. I observed many trees sporting colorful patterns of bobbers and lures. We could have used the dock but it was pretty much filled up with others all day making it a combat fishing zone. My son enjoyed walking around the small lake hunting for spots to fish from shore. We did catch one fish using the pink power bait balled up on the hook.
