First time out on the lake this past Sunday. Been up to my ears in problems and haven't been able to put any effort into tiger's and I finally had enough of that nonsense. Started off at about 7 am, rented a little boat from Shirley at Granny's Bait on the E. side of the lake. Shirley is a great supporter of the tiger muskie fishing and if you get a chance stop in and say hi to her. Shirley has been there for years and she says that people used to catch 10 or 12 tench for every trout or bass they caught. She says that hasn't been a problem for several years now thanks to the tiger muskies. I agree.

The wind was blowing into the N. all day and it made getting around a real pain. I started by drifting into the small bay in the N.E. part of the lake. I was surprised by a solid strike on my 3rd cast of the day. My first fish of the season was a healthy 37 incher that inhaled a swimming jig. It fought well and was a chore to get in my net as I'm out of practice. The fish was released with a splash in my face and I was feeling pretty darn good.
I worked my way West and had a 2nd fish bite the tail off one of my swimbaits way out at the end of a cast. I continued West and had a 3rd fish fallow the swimming jig up out of some shallow weeds. I had high hopes because this fish was fallowing close and fast. I must have spooked it though because it broke off quickly as I moved into a better position to execute a figure 8. I must be rusty from a long winter. I worked over the area by the launch and caught a few bass on a spinnerbait. Then I moved back East.
I was casting to some of the wood in the small N.E. bay again when a dark shape, barely visible through the surface chop, appeared behind my lure. This time I got to use my favorite figure 8 technique and the fish grabbed the lure. After a quick, hard fight a nice 33 incher was in the net. It was really heating up so I called it day after releasing this fish.
Talked with a bunch of folks fishing off the docks, told them about the new 50" regulation. If you want a fun way to start up a conversation with non-muskie fisher people just put a 12" Bulldawg on your leader and carry the pole around when your saying "hi". It's quite a treat.

Muskie Guy, I recommend the Wittenberger Spinner. It is all the rage this season and you can get it in any color you like as long as it's black. Next comment, I will give you my recipe for Muskieroni and cheese. See you at work my little fish-scented buddy!

eustace- you can rent a boat from Rubies on the N. side of the lake too. But the fella that runs the place doesn't seem to be too intersted in actually working or getting the resort running. He has been promising that the boats and store will be ready too go "next weekend" for the last month.
O.E.T- I have given up muskieroni and now only eat bull trout, wild salmon and bald eagles. And I have several of those spinners in different shades of black, they work great!!! I'll let you use one when we go out this year instead of that teeny-tiny #3 mepps you insist on using. I think your first 2 muskies chewed off all it's good luck.

I'm sorry if I burned up the fishes for you guys. You got to be in the muskie zen moment and they will come too you, ohhmmmm. Where the bejusus are the pics I submitted? I have noticed that the guy at Rubies is rather...relaxed, when it comes to his operation. I'm going to find out who owns the place.
