With all this HOT weather over the past weekend we had our first BBQ of the season...followed by a quick trip down the road to fish Clear Lake.
We showed up ~7:15pm and found two boats and a float tube on the lake--not a soul fishing from shore. We set up ~200ft from the boat ramp using your basic powerbait setup...we tried our standard chartreuse, orange, as well as rainbow colored....we also tried some off-brand bait with an anise scent. Nothing was working.
By 8:15 the gentleman in the pontoon kicked his way back to shore...
He'd been out all afternoon with one hit early on, but no other action. He appeared to be trolling spinners, but also had a pole rigged on a slip bobber with ~5ft leader...didn't see what he was using for bait.
Shortly after, the other two boats on the lake packed up. Story of the day seemed to be zero action....can't say I'm all that surprised, though.
By 8:45 it was starting to cool down and we started seeing fish breaking the surface. Unfortunately, the mosquitoes also decided it was time to make an appearance. They were very aggressive and VERY large. Bring your bug spray!
We packed up and left with nothing more to show than some itchy mosquito bites.
