Decided to launch despite pending rain. Got to the lake around 5:30pm. The rain started, but put the boat in the water anyway. Plenty of people on the dock, so figured if they were staying, so would I.
Was waiting for my BIL, so hung around the launch area and tried casting a plastic grub around the docks. The wind kept blowing me into them and I kept pulling algae off the bottom, so gave up and set up for trolling. At least the rain stopped. After the BIL arrived, headed out for some trolling. Had forgotten my big tackle box, so threw some lures and plugs at them for over an hour. Hooked one and had a hit on a green/orange spotted flatfish. The battery soon started dying and the wind was so cold that I had to call it quits. Of course we were at the opposite end of the lake, nearly dead battery, and a headwind....long cold trip back. Not a great fishing day,but always nice to get out and try. Total time on the water, 2.5 hours. Total fish landed, 0. Core body temperature when finished, 96 degrees. Getting the chance to go fishing after work, priceless.
