I arrived at Cranberry Lake and was on the water at 9:00 am. No wind or rain, 55 degrees, and overcast. Not another boat on the lake and only two folks in lawn chairs, fishing from shore. Water temp was 59.9 to 60.2 degrees F. As always, I trolled a #1 frog/pearl Dick Nite spoon behind 4 feet of 3 pound test leader attached to a small swivel and one small splitshot. I use this set-up exclusively at this lake and almost always do fantastic once the water is warm enough for the trout to start becoming active. I trolled where I always troll which is directly in front of the entrance to the camp ground, in the middle portion of the lake, in about 14 to 17 feet of water, and had consistent action. Strikes every couple minutes. I lost the first two at the boat (plants) as they jumped spitting the hook, followed by landing the next two which were also this years plants, running about 9 to 10 inches each. My third fish was a 16 inch carryover which hit hard and fought well taking line from the reel twice. This fish would not be horsed in and I would say the fight lasted 8 or so minutes. The action continued and after 3 more to the boat that also spit the hook, I landed the final two of my limit. I eat them so I harvest my limit most of the time. The fish in his lake taste great and have no muddy flavor. Between the hook ups, there were numerous bites where I failed to hook the fish. What a great trip. I will attach pics of the catch and the spoon in case someone is interested. Good luck all.
