Thanks to Bob for getting this lake up on the site.
Man this lake is hard to find! I made my second attempt to find this lake, this time armed with extra detailed topographic maps. I was just about ready to turn around after driving past yet another no trespassing sign when out of know where there is a rough WDFW boat launch! We are in business folks.
The water was a stained green color with good clarity. I began trolling a copper dick nite, but had no luck. Switched to a Gold Hildebrandt. I caught one fat and feisty rainbow about 13 inches, and had a couple more strikes. I tried a bobber and worm along the shoreline to see what was there. No bites.
Switched to a White and Pink Dick Nite. Caught a Cutthroat about 12 inches. Would have released it but he was hooked through the eye and bleeding. Lost a really nice rainbow at the boat. Tried a couple flies, and a silver Canadian Wonder. Nothing.
Decided to call it a day and went back to the launch. I threw out with some power bait while putting the boat away. Hooked a nice one that got caught in the brush that is out in the middle of the launch area. I just pulled and gave slack and waited and a minute later I was able to drag it out, the best fish of the day a 14 inch Rainbow.
I was really not able to key in on what they were biting on. There seems to be a ton of aquatic insects in the water. Periwinkles, small shrimps. There was very little surface activity despite calm conditions. I got all the bites near shore and especially the far end of the lake. I got nothing in the middle or anywhere off shore.
The lake level is pretty high. The launch is really odd, with a cement barrier in the middle that I could not even row my Pontoon over. I was there a good 4 hours and did not see another Soul. Great place for solitude.
