Took my son and his friend to American Lake on Saturday. We usually target Bass. But, I figured with all of these cold fronts, the kids would get a lot more action targeting Rock Bass and Perch. My son's friend has not fished very much and I wanted to put him on some fish. We had a blast. The kids must have caught 50-75 Rock Bass and 7 small Perch. They were just tossing 1/2 a worm around. It didn't seem to matter where. I was trying to be a good guide and didn't plan on fishing a whole lot. I did manage to get some casts in though. I finally caught my first American Lake Smallie. We don't fish this lake a lot. My son has caught a couple of Smallies out of here in the 2-3 lb. range. But, they have always eluded me, until today. We ducked into a cove to get a brief break from the strong winds. I tossed a little chartreuse grub towards the middle of the cove and retrieved it slowly. This Bronzeback smacked it hard and the fight was on. He was just under 18" and tipped my scale at 3 lbs. 1 oz. It was a fun fishing trip. The weather was cloudy, cold, and windy.
Fish On!
