My wife and I went out to Jump Off Joe lake this weekend to try our luck in what has been rumored to be a great brown trout lake. Even though the lake is much smaller than those in the surrounding area it receives very little pressure and isn't a popular lake for recreation other than fishing. We caught a string full of browns floating a worm tipped with pink marshmallows. Getting bored of the browns we went to shallow water to check out the bass fishing. What we found wasn't to our liking. The bass were unbelievably outnumbered by what could only be explained as a disturbing amount of sunfish. They were everywhere! Some shore walkers managed to catch a pair of 4 pounders but that was about all the action to speak of. Overall good lake, the resort leaves something to be desired, but something needs to be done about those sunfish.
