It was our first trip to Diamond this year and it was a perfect day for fishing. The wind was light, the sun was bright and there were 8-10 other fishing boats on the lake. There were only a couple ski boats and jet skis about and they stayed a safe distance from those I saw fishing, for a change. Last year we encountered the rudest and most unsafe boaters of any where we have ever been at this lake. Good to know that not everyone with a ski boat at Diamond is a jerk.

We fished our way to the west from the launch along the south shore using a drop shot set up in 20-25 feet of water. We had jigs set at 1 foot, 2 feet and 5 feet off the bottom with black/orange, yellow/white and cream colored skirts and baited with worms or chunks of night crawlers. This method produced easy limits of rainbows and browns last year. But not today. The first hour and a half yielded 2 bites and no fish. We worked our way down to an area where we have found both trout and perch in the past, feeding over a small gravely rise in the lake bottom. We started getting bites right away. Perch, and there were lots of them. By dark we had 25 9-10 inch fat perch but the only trout was one nine inch rainbow.

my hand smells like fish....and i like it !!
