Met up with Sam Kafelafish down on Lake Union to do a little smallie fishing. We fished from about 7:30-9:00pm. Sam gave me some tips and it was nice to get to fish for bass with someone that knows what they are doing. Up to this point, I have been getting skunked and not sure if it was bad luck or bad practice. Whatever it was, I was able to get some confidence in what I am doing - Thanks Sam!
I caught my 1st and 2nd small mouth EVER. Get to mark that one off the list! The 1st was about 7-8", barely hooked, in fact when I went to un-hook him for a pic, he dropped off right back into the water. The 2nd hit like a freight train! I was using a light setup with 4# test and it really gave the drag a workout! With Sam's help we made SURE we got a picture of this one!
I had to leave about 9pm, Sam kept fishing, saw he caught 1 right as I was pulling out and hopefully more after I left.

Good stuff Gringo, that was a fun afternoon. Hopefully we'll find some more fish in there in the coming weeks. Been slow out there, should be great this time of the year, but hey, can't beat a 4lb ish fish though...I'll take that any day!

They must love those spinnerbaits reeled in slooowly right off those rocks....

I got a few more when you left. Nothing big, all under 12 inches, but fun nonetheless...

We'll have to get back out when the bite really picks up....

How is this report a 2? Gringo has high standards. Nice work out there guys,gotta love fish'n the smallies....and bass for that matter.

Only rated a 2 because that is how many fish I caught (It is my understanding that the rating system is going to make more sense in the next release). Now as far as the experience...... Met another WL.com-er, learned a bunch of new stuff, the weather was beautiful, checked off another on the species list, and set my personal best for smallies pretty high right off the bat. That puts it at a 6 or 7 at least!

well... it's not HOW many fish you catch, at least not exactly. :-)
But that is one way to look at it. Creating a rating system that makes sense to everyone is not as easy as we would have thought.

That was a pig...I didn't see him reeling it in until he got it near the shore and I heard the thrashing on the surface. I was a few dozen feet down the bank and a bush kinda blocked my view of him. But as soon as I looked and saw his rod doubled and a fish going nuts near the bank I was like "Darn thats a BIG fish" so I ran over and helped him pull it ashore for the picture opportunity.

Wonderful catch Gringo,..I've just started to fish Union,..whenever I don't want to hit the Big Water {LW} on the boat me and the nephews hit up Union,..have yet to get some Smallies,..I might not be in the hot spots,..but I'm trying none the less,..some pointers on where they are would be great,..all in all anytime you can fish is a 5 to me,..lol.
