Gringo Pescador mentioned earlier in the day he was headed back out to our spot to hit up the smallies (see the last Lake Union report to see his PIG smallie!) and I figured if I had nothing to do I'd head out there for a late evening of chasing some smallmouth bass.
8pm rolled around, nothing to do, so what the heck, called Gringo up, he was out there fishing so I loaded up the car and headed out. Met him at 8:20pm and all he said he had hit was a little 4 incher...
He was using a white spinnerbait and had a texas rigged worm on the other rod. I had a black/silver tube on a football head jig on rod #1 and a small Strike King Mini King spinnerbait (Chartruese/blue) on the other rod. Worked that spinnerbait the most after witnessing Gringo's success the previous night. We casted around and covered shore for an hour with nothing to show. I was getting nibbles from tiny smallies(3-5 inchers) but nothing stuck. As soon as that sun went down around 9:30 it got real hot, for me at least. I figured out where the smallies were hanging (bottom of a vertical rock wall in about 10 feet of water) so I would cast my spinnerbait out, let it sink for 15 seconds, then slowly roll it back in keeping it just above the rocks. I nailed 5 in about 20-30 minutes, Gringo on the other hand had the cold rod today. Sorry about that Gringo, wish ya had some better luck tonight....
Anyways, that blue/chartreuse spinnerbait was deadly for about 30 minutes before it got way too dark. 3 of the fish were just little guys, but fun nonetheless on light trout rods. They were just little 9-10 inchers, the other two were a little bigger. One was probably 14 inches, the other maybe 16-17...Gotta buy a new tape, keep forgetting that at the store.
Anyways, nothing big like Gringo's lunker the other night, but enough action and just big enough to make it an enjoyable evening on the water...Just another great day to be fishing and fun to fish alongside with another WL.com'er....
Thanks Gringo Pescador, it was another fun night...
