Started off the day by going to Lost Lake near Monroe but got LOST looking for LOST LAKE, how ironic. Spent too much time looking and gave up. Then my dad and i decided to go to a different lake. We were looking at our " WASHINGTON ATLAS & GAZETTEER" and found Chain Lake, went there because it sounded like a good lake. It was a good lake, but not fish-wise, it was good because it was small, quiet, and pleasant. Only one other fishermen in a canoe but neither of us caught anything. We left after about an hour there and it was about noon-12:30 and tried for a third lake. They say third time's a charm and so it was. Our third lake was Storm Lake and it was good fishing despite the muddy and murky water. I went in my pontoon boat and my dad was in the aluminum Crestliner. I caught a 10 incher right off the bat and got several more STRIKES about 5 minutes apart. Probably would have gotten them if i didn't have to mess around with the oars... :( Then about the sixth or seventh strike, it was a good one. Set the hook and it put up a good fight. Finally reeled it in and it was about 12 inches. Kept both of my fish. We fished for about 4 1/2 hours and my dad also got 2 fish. Took em home and cooked em. The meat was a little mushy, probably because the water isn't that clean so I wouldn't really recommend this fish for eating. I do recommend the lake for catch and release fishing though. Beautiful day which made it even better. Definitely coming back and hoping for some bigger catches.

I live on Storm Lake and have never had a mushy fish from there even in the summer time. I clean and put them on ice right away. Don't drag them around for hours in a boat. I'd suggest everyone do this. You'll find that trout are excellent eating if taken care of.

I also have found that killing the fish immediately makes for better table quality as well.

Storm Lake is suffering from some type of yellow algae. The particles are very small and there are "clouds" of it that move with the wind. Anyone know what that stuff is? I've never seen anything like it...
